Narrative:

On 6-19-2008, gang investigators arrested Jose Ramos and Sergio Ramos at their residence for participating in a gang related shooting. The shooting occurred on 5-18-08 in the community Oak View.
On 5-18-08,at about 0320 hours, Ojai patrol deputies responded to a shots fired call in the area of Short Street and Ventura Ave. The deputies were unable to find any evidence of a crime at that time. At about 0800 hours, Deputies were called back to an address on Short Street where they discovered a car that had two bullet holes in it. A search of the area found shell casings more than 350 feet away. Deputies also located a victim who stated he was shot at during the early morning hours. He did not report the incident at the time of the shooting.
Gang investigators developed information that Jose and Sergio Ramos were involved in the shooting and obtained a search warrant for their residence. Both subjects are active OSL gang members.
On 6-19-2008, the Sheriff’s Gang Unit, along with deputies from the Ojai station, served a search warrant at the Ramos’ residence. Both Sergio and Jose were present and were arrested. A search of the residence found ammunition similar to the shell casings found at the scene.
Jose Ramos and Sergio Ramos were booked into the Ventura County Jail for Assault with a firearm, and Street Terrorism. Sergio, who was out on bail for possession of heroin at the time of the shooting, was additionally charged with the commission of a felony while out on bail. They are both being held on $100,000 bail.

Could this possibly have happened on 6/18, not 5/18?

Thank God for the arrests. How did they miss all the shell casings during the first look-see? Glad they did find them.

FROM THE OVN, MAY 21:
Ojai Valley News (CA) - May 21, 2008
Authorities are investigating a possible drive-by shooting in Oak View early Sunday morning after seven casings, believed to be from a .22 caliber weapon, were found on the ground. Sheriff's Sgt. Maureen Hookstra said Monday no one was injured in the 3:30 a.m. incident on Short Street, but a neighbor later reported two of the shots struck his vehicle. Dayshift deputies determined that one shot entered the rear passenger side window and exited through the driver's side...

It is so sad they used to be nice boys when they were little. What happened to them.

Thank you for the clarification on the date this happened. I noticed that the arrests were reported to have been made in the 100 block of La Luna Ave in OAK VIEW (La Luna is in Meiners Oaks) and wondered if maybe the date was wrong also. I recall hearing what I hoped was just firecrackers in the middle of the night this past week and was thinking maybe this incident was what I heard.

Reading the article, I thought the 27 year-old was the father of the 19 year-old. We must keep an open mind to the customs of our newcomers in the Ojai Valley.

Fourth of July is coming up, and the Ramos familia will be shooting guns in the air. Viva La Raza!! http://www.ksee24.com/news/local/12963912.html

Ojai and surrounding communities need a gang injunction.

If everyone is so worried about crime in the Ojai Valley, then maybe they should focus on creating outreach programs or maybe even better supporting their local schools. Most people end up becoming criminals because they are neglected by their own society. Ojai creates criminals because of the ignorant people that live here. Gangs will disapear when the community decides to reach out to these kids, instead of always throwing the cops at them.

Oh, horse pucky! There are PLENTY of kids in this valley who have made something of themselves without pie-in-the-sky outreach la de dah programs. Get your head OUT of the clouds. It starts at HOME. These kids, for WHATEVER reason, do not have the leadership at HOME. They become criminals because they are neglected at HOME. This community has been great to kids who show a willingness to go on to achieve, even if their families do not have the means. This town does NOT neglect those who really want to do more than sharpen their tagging skills. They just need to be taught from their early years AT HOME that they are responsible for their own destiny and to make good use of the opportunities that their forefathers were searching for when they came here.

Is Mark Nash back? Not enough local outreach programs?

Let's face it, these kids should be identified and weeded out at a very early age. We all know that kids that commit little crimes end up becoming adults that commit major crimes. What we need to do is create a target list, with the help of local schools, that identifies the likely criminals and keep them monitored.

Why should innocent people suffer when the criminals can easily be spotted at an early age and eradicated?

Newcomers??? Are we talking about Mexican immigrants? They are not NEW, they have BEEN HERE. Did you forget that we live in an agricultural community? Maybe we need to implement BIRTH CONTROL OUTREACH programs and PARENTING programs then maybe we would be seeing less of these so called "newcomers" turning out so mischievious...

"weeded out" . plz clarify jim hatch!! Prison, shot, sterilized?

i agree with the fact that all these kids and adults should not be chased down by the police, they should be reached out by the community and helped. wether theyre addiction is drugs, aclcohol or gangs they do have a problem and they need help. and as much as theyre parents are to blame its not completely their parents fault. their parents have done as much as they can. they really are nice and caring boys, with big hearts they just dont know any better. jail will teach them no differnt just to gang bang harder. and the 27 yr is not the 19 yr olds father.

Sounds like the words of a parent at a sentencing hearing

no not really just a person with a big heart who knows these boys and knows that have big hearts as well as the rest of the family. it makes me mad to see them judged like this. its so sad

This is crazy talk. One was out on bail for heroin. They don't know any better? They know enough to run away, and lie when they are caught. They know what they are doing is wrong. These are exactly the kind of criminals that do not belong in society, they threaten us all with their selfish, violent and criminal behavior.

crazy talk...no i dont think so.. just the truth.

so.... drive by shooters should just be sat down and given a good talking to? Or how about a fooseball table, that'll keep their big hearts of the street

The Ojai Valley has changed so much in the last few years and yes it is the immigrants to blame, 10 years ago we had maybe only a 1/4 of the hispanics that we have today. The gangs, drugs when ARE the hispanics going to take responsiblity. I am afraid the Ojai valley will just end up like another Oxnard. Its a shame for the decent hard working people that live there!

ditto! Yes raising kids is a chore. If you stick your nose to the grind, the end product is a reward to society as a whole. As a single parent for the last 10 years, I have been constantly involved w/ my son, he is 16 has never been in trouble, and gets on well with all classes of people except skinheads [bigots}.

Anonymous said...

all you people are racist against hispanics and immigrants. its not their fault that no one has accepted them and this is what they have resorted to. and why must people always have to bag on hispanics and skin heads. are all hispanics and white people with shaved heads bad people? i dont think so
