Police Pursuit Ends In Crash

Jonathan Mosqueda, 22, was arrested Monday night after he crashed his Ford Taurus at Signal and Summer streets. According to Police Chief Bruce Norris, a pursuit began when Deputy Gunnar Dyke spotted and attempted to stop Mosqueda near the Garden Terrace Restaurant following an alleged domestic incident. The suspect vehicle then sped eastbound toward Gridley Road, and eventually headed westbound on Grand Avenue. Norris said Dyke backed off the chase at Grand Avenue and Drown Street as Mosqueda blew stop signs and reached a speed Dyke estimated was too excessive to make the turn where Grand Avenue becomes Signal Street. Mosqeda reportedly then fled the scene of the crash and was tackled by Dyke a short distance away. He was arrested for evading a police officer, resisting arrest, and on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was transported to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital with an ankle injury and scrapes and cuts on his scalp.

The beginning of this story...there was a couple fighting in a parking lot at the corner of Ojai Avenue and Shady Lane at about 10 last night. The guy involved took off in his car up Shady Lane, turned left on Grand and lost it when he got to the corner of Grand and Signal Street.

Slow news day.

I think thats 2 seperate incidents, cause this was the end of the run, the guy was hittin speeds of 85 on gridley, they flew past me at the corner of grandview and grand doin 100mph and that was right at 10 last night, I saw the chase down grand that ended in the crash, and its all over some chick!! the kid was only 22 yrs old......

Anonymous said...

That may be. So, what happened to the guy?

Anonymous said...

WOW!! 100 mph down Grand Ave? Lucky nobody got hurt! Can you imagine the people in that house?

Anonymous said...

Obviously not enough if he only has a few scrapes and hurt ankle.

Anonymous said...

His car hit the corner and sailed over the small ravine and landed upside down just missing the corner of the house but wiped out a big section of their fence.. Then he tried to run home. He was bleeding profusely from his head and calling for his papa. The ordeal took at least an hour to take care of. Fire truck, ambulance, and several police cars woke up the entire neighborhood.

after the crash I heard someone yelling "George, George" over and over again. I went down there to look and there was a guy on the sidewalk without a shirt, in pajama bottoms with his head bandaged up.
Who is George and is the guy in the pajamas the dude who crashed. And who was the fool in boxers with a big shit eating grin on his face taking i phone pics of everything?

that was e.e. cummings.

dude was saying over and over again...."papa you were right, I should have left that b****, I dont care about the money....I should have left that b****."

he was 22? looked a bit older......I saw him being treated by the paramedics and got to hear him talkin all kinds of stuff. amazing he got out of that wreck. So glad no-one got hurt or killed.

what POS, he'll be calling Papi in county.

"Mosqeda reportedly then fled the scene of the crash and was tackled by Dyke a short distance away."
This is absolutely FALSE! That stupid deputy would not have been able to apprehend the suspect if a neighbor hadn't tripped the guy as he was leaving the deputy in his dust! The deputy apparently didn't really "back off" the pursuit, as the last thing I heard before the crash was a loud siren!
Good Job Ojai PD! High speed pursuits are exactly what Ojai needs! Any day of the week, 95% of the drivers on Grand are exceeding the speed limit by at least 15mph, and then on to Summer St, where they exceed the speed limit by at least 20mph! The Ojai PD seems unable to do anything about this problem, even though I have filed numerous complaints in writing to them. Granted, Mr. Mosqueda was a fool for driving that fast, and he's lucky he didn't kill someone or himself; but he's not the only one breaking the law! How about the guy a month or so ago who slammed into the back of a parked Ford Explorer on the NE corner of Signal & Summer? The guy was obviously drunk out of his mind, but he backed up and drove away! Witnesses gave the Ojai PD a good description of the vehicle and a partial plate number, but the driver was never located! That's top-notch police work!

Anonymous said...

Maybe we need a political convention to come to town so the Ojai PD can beat down some protestors or mace women and children, so they can feel like "real" cops!

Anonymous said...

I dunno, sounds to me like the PD did an awesome job and got their man! Good job!

Anonymous said...

Looked like good Police work to me. It appears some people have na axe to grind with the local law.

Anonymous said...

Why when a cop does something good for the community most people put them dowm? He was doing his job and he did it well "LOOK AT THE OUTCOME". One more abuser off the street!! Sleep Well.

The stupid thing about the comment on sept 17 at 12:33 is " even though I have filed numerous complaints in writing to them. " Why do you have to hide behind a anonymous tag why can't you state your name chicken shit. I hate the anonymous tag it gives dumb asses a way to hide. Next thing is "Witnesses gave the Ojai PD a good description of the vehicle and a partial plate number, but the driver was never located! That's top-notch police work!" How much of a partial tag. If its not the whole thing there isn't much they can do. Great Job VCSO

not another crash on grand, this time at grand and mercer st.cops didnt go as fast as the other nite this time it seems like about 70mph.let the chp patrol grand ave for awhile.people use grand because there is only 4 stop signs from ojai ave to the east end,and you usually dont have to stop at 2 of them

Anonymous said...

hey john,
you are no less anonymous than the other 18 anonymous posters on this thread! why don't you post your full name and address here and i'll be glad to come over and introduce myself.
by the way, just what is the point to your post? it appears to be your issue with anonymous postings. here's my advice: go back to school and get your GED, learn how to construct grammatically correct sentences, then go f*#! yourself!
my point was that the Ojai PD can't keep a handle on speeders within the city, which endangers pedestrians, children, pets, and property. i have observed hundreds of drivers doing 45mph down ojai av in a 25mph zone, as well as the above mentioned Grand av/Summer st corridor. i find this unacceptable and a public safety FAILURE! i am expressing my opinion about the occurrence of events. you, john, are just what you fear most, a chickensh*t dumbass!

I just got on here and read the post in front of me which started about something like I hate people who anonymously post here...that person called himself John. Um I haven't even read the first part of this blog yet but, I do already know that "John" is an --- ----

Anonymous said...

John Bentley is my name but I see you are still hiding behind anonymous. I graduated from High School and do not have a GED. I spent time in the Air Force and AM semi retired from being a firefighter. I know how to make sentences and if I have a problem with someone I don't hide in a posting I go to the source like the P.D or whom ever. I also don't get my wife to go under Jane Doe and make comments to help me. Is that better or are you going to cry about something else.

Whoever said it did? I don't see a posting by your conscience.

Anonymous said...

....my, my, my, such anonymous anger. That's why I never put my name. I could just see someone "coming over to introduce themselves" and then beat me up, or scratch up my car, or rip off my Obama signs. Because many people have forgotten how to be civil and allow other people to have opinions(no matter how stupid--it's a free country remember?) we are forced to have anonymity. My 84 year old father had his car completely vandalized in front of his house(in Ojai--he a military veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam) after he wrote a letter opposing the war in Iraq to the local newspaper. "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm them."

Anonymous said...

who is this person behind the wheel, and how long has he been driving his car without the care for another person's safety. he deserves to be shot.

So much foul filth on this thread, why is OVN allowing it to stand? I look forward to reading thoughtful, civil conversations that enhance the posted story. Some of these comments are not appropriate.

OVN administrator said...

It is moderated, and, yes, close to getting out-of-hand in some regards. But if we pull marginal posts, we are accused of censorship. Where do we draw the line? Would you suggest removing the "Anonymous' option and demand people not only reveal their names but their e-mail addresses?

Anonymous said...

Did everyone lose their sense of humor? Mister Rogers doesn't make comments like that

Anonymous said...

It's fine to be anonymous, but everyone should follow your policy:
"The OVN will not allow language we determine to be foul, intimidating, offensive, libelous or threatening in comments posted on our blogs."

Conversations, in some cases, have deteriorated to unacceptable levels. High-minded debate should be encouraged by removing these posts and asking posters to re-post in a more civil manner. That is not censorship.

TO Lenny and all others. I apologize for some of the words I used but I feel if you want to bash someone you should at least have the nerve to use your name and not hide behind an anonymous name. I know the person could make up an assumed name but to me that is childish just like him threatening me. I am sorry if I offended anyone other than the one guy and his friend Jane Doe.

Anonymous said...

Lenny...

Perhaps including a "suggest removal" link would take the pressure off the OVN to make those decisions.

That said, don't look for anymore posts from me. After a year-long research project on blogs, I have concluded they are places of little substance and arenas of mostly poor behavior where accountability is absent. The few good "conversations" that are to be found are not worth sifting through the trash talk.

Interestingly, one of the few people willing to put his name on a post was Pete Lafollete - someone with whom I have had repeated (and sometimes testy) exchanges, but always civil ones. Kudos to all those who can disagree without being vulgar.

It's about time you stopped writing. Your opinions were always shallow anyhow. Your ego was a little too much to take.

I guess your farewell blog is testament to your egocentric behavior: Rather than stop blogging, you blog to let everyone know that you aren't going to blog anymore because of low brow comments.

Good bye and good riddance.

I couldn't stand the dog whisperer either.

PL, where are you when your needed the most? Must be working on getting ten percent of the vote again.

I, for one, will miss B and her authenticity, honesty, ability to articulate and use of intelligent arguments. There should be more participants here with those qualities. Too bad.

WOW.......Someone told me to read these posts because they could not believe the bottom feeders that actually lived in this community. Whoever "Anonymous" and "her" buddy that rescued her"where are you when i need you" is just another example of the left wing radical, mean spirited, separated and lost since birth of what really makes the "right" world go around....that is respect of others opinions....you snot nosed little brats...busy yourselves and read some self help books and stop putting down others...taxpayers,professionals,educators and yes, my friends. Via Con Dios.

As a left-winger, I take exception to your comment. High-minded debate does not follow party lines, snotted noses notwithstanding.

Anon 11:43,

You are a complete retard. Am I supposed to read your comment with a beat box in the background for the extra hard effects?

I've made mistakes, but I am not quite sure if I've made a kistake? Is that where a kiss leads to more and then the spawn of a lowlife such as the thug that was arrested?

Just exactly, how would I "but my niose?" Is that something I would learn in your 'hood, homey? Or would they teach that to me in County?

I hope you are not a product of our local schools. If you are, you have wasted taxpayer money, but I guess when you left on the government dole, wasteful spending is a concept foriegn to you.

B Dawson,

You must really be struggling inside with all those conflicting thoughts: Should I write or would I lose credibility? Can I let these remarks about me being a dog whisperer go? Can I really give up blogging?

We'll forgive you if you come back. It's not the same without you here. I miss PL's insight.

Can't we all just get along?

Why did these jerks like live free or die and Mr. Rogers have to come along and ruin everything.
